Numicia is a genus of insects belonging to the family Lophopidae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are recognized as specialized pests that primarily impact crops in tropical and subtropical regions, posing a significant threat to plantation stability and productivity.

The primary host plant for this pest is sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum). By feeding on the phloem sap of the plant, Numicia disrupts the physiological processes required for sucrose synthesis, which directly translates into economic losses for farmers and sugar processing facilities.

The life cycle of Numicia involves several nymphal stages before reaching adulthood. The insects are typically found on the underside of leaves or within the leaf sheaths. Their population dynamics are heavily influenced by temperature and humidity, which dictate the speed of development and frequency of generations per season.

Damage caused by Numicia is characterized by leaf chlorosis, curling, and early desiccation. Furthermore, the secretion of honeydew promotes the growth of sooty mold, which negatively impacts the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis, ultimately weakening the entire sugarcane stool.
