This species primarily impacts submerged infrastructure used in mariculture, including fish cages, shellfish ropes, aquaculture nets, and water intake filters. The biological cycle of this hydroid involves an alternation of generations, progressing from a sessile polyp stage to a free-swimming medusa stage.
