Omocestus is a genus of grasshoppers belonging to the family Acrididae within the order Orthoptera. These insects are commonly recognized as a type of slant-faced grasshopper. While they are a natural part of grassland ecosystems, their ability to increase in population density makes them a significant pest for various agricultural crops.

The main crops susceptible to damage by Omocestus species include cereals like wheat, barley, and oats, as well as fodder grasses and maize. The grasshoppers feed on the leaves and stems of these plants, which can result in significant biomass loss and reduce the overall photosynthetic capacity of the plants, ultimately impacting yield quality and quantity.

The biology of Omocestus involves incomplete metamorphosis. They overwinter as eggs deposited within egg pods in the soil.
