Description

Ooencyrtus pityocampae is a Hymenopteran insect belonging to the family Encyrtidae. This species is widely recognized in forestry as a specialized egg parasitoid that plays a vital role in controlling the population density of various lepidopteran pests, most notably the pine processionary moth.

The primary hosts for this parasitoid are the eggs of the pine processionary moth (Thaumetopoea pityocampa).
