Parkers mite (Ornithodoros parkeri) is a member of the Argasidae family within the order Parasitiformes. Unlike common ixodid ticks, this species is soft-bodied and typically exhibits a nidicolous behavior, meaning it dwells in the nests or burrows of its hosts. This biological specialization allows the mite to remain hidden in the structural elements of farm buildings, sheds, and barns for long periods.

Although it does not damage crops, Ornithodoros parkeri poses a significant economic threat to livestock and poultry production systems. By feeding on the blood of farm animals, these ticks cause distress, anemia, and reduced production efficiency. In many agricultural settings, they are considered primary vectors for various pathogenic microorganisms, which can lead to widespread health issues within the herd.

Furthermore, the presence of these mites in agricultural facilities poses a potential risk to the safety of farm workers.
