The Orthops genus belongs to the Miridae family, commonly known as plant bugs, within the order Hemiptera. These insects are widely distributed and can become significant pests in both agricultural and horticultural settings. These bugs primarily target a variety of crops, including umbelliferous plants such as carrots, celery, and parsnips, as well as various berries. They feed on plant sap by piercing the tissues with their mouthparts, targeting buds, leaves, and tender stems.
