Description
Orthosia is a genus of moths belonging to the Noctuidae family, widely recognized for the damage their larvae (caterpillars) cause to fruit trees and various deciduous plants. These insects are particularly noted for their early spring activity, which coincides with the critical budding stage of many crops.
Taxonomically, the genus is classified within the order Lepidoptera and the Noctuidae family. The adult moths are typically robust with camouflaged forewings, enabling them to blend in seamlessly with tree bark during their mating and egg-laying flights in the early spring.
The primary damage is inflicted by the larvae, which feed voraciously on swelling buds, emerging leaves, and floral parts.
