Osbornellus is a genus of leafhoppers belonging to the family Cicadellidae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are well-known in the agricultural community as specialized pests that feed on the phloem of various trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants.

They predominantly damage fruit crops, including apple, pear, and certain stone fruits. By piercing the plant tissues and extracting nutrients, they cause significant physiological stress to the host, which often leads to reduced fruit quality and overall yield decline.

The life cycle typically consists of the egg, nymph, and adult stages. Eggs are inserted into the plant tissue, often within the bark or leaf veins, which protects them from environmental stressors. Nymphs, which resemble smaller, wingless versions of the adults, feed continuously and progress through multiple instars.

The damage caused by Osbornellus is characterized by leaf chlorosis, curling, and stunted shoot growth. Beyond direct feeding damage, their saliva can be phytotoxic, and some species are suspected of acting as vectors for plant pathogens, further exacerbating the impact on orchards.
