Host plants: This aphid species primarily infests apple trees (Malus domestica). It targets the undersides of leaves, showing a distinct preference for young, succulent foliage found on actively growing terminal shoots and water sprouts at the base of the tree.

Biology and life cycle: The species overwinters in the egg stage, which is deposited on the bark near buds. As temperatures rise in spring, fundatrices hatch and begin multiple generations of asexual reproduction. The rapid generation turnover allows populations to expand significantly throughout the growing season until sexual forms appear in autumn to lay overwintering eggs.

Damage patterns and harmfulness: The feeding activity of Ovatus malisuctus causes the leaf margins to curl inwards, forming protective galls for the colonies. This damage inhibits normal leaf function, slows down photosynthetic activity, and causes visible deformation of shoots. If the infestation is severe, the tree experiences stunted growth, and the honeydew produced by the aphids promotes the growth of sooty mold.
