The rice grasshopper (Oxya chinensis) is a member of the Acrididae family within the order Orthoptera. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest, particularly in rice-growing regions of Asia, where it can cause substantial yield losses if not properly managed.

This pest primarily infests rice crops but acts as a polyphagous insect under high density conditions. It is frequently observed feeding on various graminaceous plants, including maize, wheat, sorghum, and many wild grass species, which serve as alternative food sources during the off-season.
