Pachyneuron is a genus of parasitic wasps belonging to the family Pteromalidae (Pteromalids) within the order Hymenoptera. In agricultural practice, this organism is not classified as a plant pest in the conventional sense, as it does not feed on plant tissues. Instead, it is identified as a hyperparasitoid, which interacts with the complex web of insect populations in agricultural ecosystems.

The primary biological activity of Pachyneuron involves attacking primary parasitoids, such as braconid or aphidiid wasps, that inhabit aphid colonies. By parasitizing the larvae of these beneficial wasps inside aphid mummies, Pachyneuron acts as a secondary parasite. This interaction can significantly hinder the success of biological control programs by reducing the population of insects intended to manage aphid infestations.

The life cycle of Pachyneuron is synchronized with its hosts. The female wasp searches for aphid mummies containing the developing primary parasitoid. Using her ovipositor, she pierces the mummy and deposits an egg on the host larva.
