In agricultural systems, it is recognized as a hyperparasitoid, specifically attacking the primary parasitoids of aphids, such as those in the genus Aphidius. Consequently, it interferes with the natural regulation of aphid populations in many crops.

The larvae hatch and feed on the developing primary parasitoid inside the mummy, effectively killing it before it can emerge. This process replaces a beneficial insect with a pest regulator that actually works against crop protection goals. Depending on temperatures, the lifecycle can be completed in a few weeks, allowing for multiple overlapping generations.
