Pachyneuron planiscuta belongs to the order Hymenoptera and the family Pteromalidae. In agricultural ecosystems, this species acts as a hyperparasitoid, which makes it a significant, albeit indirect, pest. By targeting beneficial insects, it disrupts the natural balance and impedes biological control programs that rely on parasitoid wasps to keep aphid populations low.

The host range of this species covers various crops, including cereals, legumes, and vegetable crops. Its presence is detrimental because it selectively eliminates primary parasitoids, which are the natural enemies of aphids. The life cycle of this insect is centered around the parasitized hosts. The female Pachyneuron searches for aphid mummies containing developing larvae of primary parasitoids. Once located, the female deposits an egg into the mummy. The emerging Pachyneuron larva consumes the primary parasitoid, effectively killing it before it can emerge as an adult, thus stripping the agroecosystem of its defense mechanism.
