Systematic position: The Asian swallowtail (Papilio xuthus) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Papilionidae. This butterfly is widely recognized in Eastern Asia, being a prominent species that adapts well to various environments within its geographical range.

Host plants: The larvae (caterpillars) of this species specialize in feeding on members of the Rutaceae family. Their preferred hosts include commercial citrus crops such as oranges, lemons, and tangerines, as well as several related wild or ornamental species like the Amur cork tree.

Biology and life cycle: This species typically undergoes multiple generations per year, depending on the local climate. They overwinter as pupae, which are securely attached to stems or bark. Adult butterflies emerge in the spring, feed on nectar, and proceed to lay eggs directly on the foliage of host plants to ensure immediate food supply for emerging larvae.
