The primary host for this pest is the oak tree (Quercus). The larvae feed on the tissues of the leaves, causing the plant to undergo hyperplastic growth, which manifests as distinctive galls. This parasitic relationship is highly host-specific, ensuring the survival of the midge within the protected environment of the leaf tissue.
