Description
Systematic position: The irritated leafhopper (Paraphlepsius irroratus) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest capable of causing economic losses in various cropping systems throughout North America.
Host plants: This species is highly polyphagous, meaning it feeds on a wide array of host plants. Key crops susceptible to damage include alfalfa, clover, soybeans, various small grains, and occasionally forage grasses. The high mobility of adults allows for rapid colonization of healthy fields during the growing season.
Biology and lifecycle: The insect undergoes a life cycle consisting of the egg, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage.
