Heavy infestations lead to leaf curling, chlorosis, and premature leaf drop. Biology and life cycle: The life cycle is complex, involving overwintering as eggs placed in bark crevices. Upon hatching in spring, the founder nymphs initiate colonization. The species produces multiple generations throughout the growing season, with winged adults appearing later to facilitate migration and colonization of new host branches.

Impact on trees: Beyond direct sap extraction, these aphids produce honeydew, which creates a substrate for sooty mold fungi.
