Systematic position: The oat mealybug (Phenacoccus avenae) belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Pseudococcidae. It is a specialized sap-sucking pest known for infesting various members of the Poaceae family, impacting crop yields globally.

Host plants: This pest primarily attacks small grain cereals such as oats, wheat, and barley. It can also colonize wild grasses, which often act as reservoirs for the pest, allowing it to survive between crop growing seasons.
