Phorodon, commonly known as the hop aphid (Phorodon humuli), belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. This small insect pest is a major threat to specific agricultural crops, causing significant damage through its feeding habits and disease transmission capabilities.
The primary host plant for Phorodon is the common hop (Humulus lupulus). However, the pest has a complex life cycle that involves migration to secondary hosts, typically stone fruit trees like plums and sloes, where the population survives the winter in the egg stage.
