Lesser glow worm

Taxonomic classification: The Lesser glow worm (Phosphaenus hemipterus) is a member of the Coleoptera order and the Lampyridae family. Unlike the well-known glow worms that exhibit bright bioluminescence, this specific species is characterized by its reduced elytra and lack of light-producing organs in the adult stage.

Biology and life cycle: The species undergoes a complete metamorphosis. Larvae are specialized predators that inhabit leaf litter, compost heaps, and moist soil environments. They are specifically adapted to track and hunt soft-bodied prey. Adults are also predatory and are usually active during dusk or nocturnal hours, taking advantage of high humidity conditions.
