The black-headed mirid bug (Phylus melanocephalus) is an insect species belonging to the Miridae family, within the order Hemiptera. It is recognized as a specific pest that primarily affects oak trees, making it a subject of interest in both forestry management and arboriculture.

This species primarily feeds on various oak species (Quercus). By utilizing its piercing-sucking mouthparts, the bug extracts cell sap from young leaves and shoots. While it typically targets healthy trees, the impact of localized outbreaks can be significant, especially in nurseries or young plantation stands.

The life cycle of Phylus melanocephalus is strictly linked to the tree's phenology. The species overwinters in the egg stage, with eggs embedded in the bark of twigs.
