The cabbage leaf miner (lat. Phytobia crucifericola) is a dipteran insect belonging to the Agromyzidae family. It is recognized as a specific agricultural pest that primarily targets plants within the Brassicaceae family, causing significant physiological stress to the host plants during its larval stage.

This pest affects a wide array of cruciferous crops, including cabbage, kale, radish, turnips, and oilseed rape. The economic impact is highest during the early vegetative stages, as the larvae prioritize the foliage, which is essential for the plant's development and subsequent crop yield.

The biology of Phytobia crucifericola involves a complete metamorphosis. Adult females oviposit eggs directly into the leaf mesophyll. Upon hatching, the larvae create winding tunnels, known as mines, while feeding on the internal leaf tissue. Once the larval development is complete, they typically exit the leaf to pupate in the soil.

Damage is characterized by distinct, winding, whitish or brownish trails across the leaf surface. High infestation rates result in premature leaf senescence and stunted growth.
