Pleotrichophorus is a genus of aphids belonging to the family Aphididae (order Hemiptera). These insects are specialized pests that primarily feed on plants within the family Asteraceae. They are taxonomically distinguished by the numerous capitate or blunt hairs covering their bodies, which provide a unique appearance compared to other aphid genera.
This pest mainly targets both wild and cultivated Asteraceae species, including chrysanthemums, wormwood, yarrow, and various other ornamental or medicinal plants. By extracting phloem sap, the aphids congregate on young leaves, soft shoots, and developing flower buds, causing physiological stress and stunted growth in the host plant.
