While typically dwelling in forest litter as scavengers, these organisms can adapt to agricultural environments, particularly in damp soil conditions, where they transition from consuming organic debris to damaging cultivated plants.

The pest primarily targets root crops and vegetable seedlings. Crops such as potatoes, carrots, and beets are susceptible, especially when their skin is compromised or when the soil remains constantly moist. Greenhouses and nurseries are particularly vulnerable due to the consistently high humidity levels maintained for plant growth.

The biology of these millipedes is strictly moisture-dependent. They undergo a multi-stage life cycle, with developmental rates heavily influenced by environmental humidity.
