Description
The mango gall midge Procontarinia mangiferae is a specialized and destructive pest belonging to the order Diptera and the family Cecidomyiidae. This tiny insect is a major concern for mango producers worldwide, as its larvae can cause extensive damage to both vegetative and reproductive parts of the tree.
This pest exclusively attacks Mangifera indica. The larvae induce the formation of galls, which are abnormal growths on plant tissues.
