Pseudocuma is a genus of small crustaceans belonging to the order Cumacea and the family Pseudocumidae. While these organisms typically inhabit marine and brackish benthic environments, they can occasionally become a nuisance when they infiltrate irrigation systems or flooded agricultural landscapes, affecting the stability of the aquatic environment.
Crops grown in saturated or flooded conditions, such as rice paddies, are the primary environments where Pseudocuma may interact with agricultural processes. Their presence is generally tied to the management of irrigation water, and they may proliferate in systems where water quality and sediment levels are not strictly regulated.
The biology of Pseudocuma is characterized by direct development, where juveniles hatch from the female's brood pouch fully formed.
