Host plants: The primary hosts are members of the genus Populus, including black poplar, Canadian poplar, and white poplar. Occasionally, these aphids can be found on willow (Salix) species, colonizing the stems and tender shoots where they feed in dense, gregarious colonies.

Biology and life cycle: The species overwinters in the egg stage, which are typically deposited on the bark of young branches. In the spring, stem mothers emerge and start multiple generations of parthenogenetic females. Late in the season, sexual forms appear to mate and lay eggs, which ensures the survival of the population through the winter months.

Damage and pest status: The damage is caused by intense sap-sucking, which leads to stunted shoot growth, leaf curling, and premature yellowing of foliage.
