Description
Systematic position. The Two-banded moth (Pyrrhia bifasciata) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Noctuidae. It is a known agricultural pest that causes periodic damage to various plants within its distribution range, particularly affecting horticultural sectors.
Target crops. This species is primarily associated with plants of the Solanaceae and Fabaceae families. Among the most susceptible crops are tomatoes, potatoes, and various beans, where the moth can establish itself and cause damage if not properly managed during the growing season.
Biology and life cycle. Like most members of the Noctuidae family, it undergoes a complete metamorphosis. It typically overwinters in the pupal stage within the upper layers of the soil. Emergence of the adult moths occurs in the spring, followed by mating and egg-laying on host plants, which triggers the onset of the pest's annual life cycle.
