The Erythrina gall wasp, scientifically known as Quadrastichus erythrinae, is a minute hymenopteran insect belonging to the Eulophidae family. It is a highly specialized pest that targets various species of the Erythrina genus, commonly known as coral trees.
The biological cycle of the pest is centered on the formation of galls. The female wasp inserts its ovipositor into the host plant's young leaves and petioles, injecting eggs and associated secretions. These secretions trigger abnormal cell division in the plant, resulting in the formation of galls where the developing larvae feed and mature.
