Snakeflies (genus Raphidia) belong to the order Raphidioptera, family Raphidiidae. These insects are easily recognized by their elongated prothorax, which gives them a neck-like appearance resembling a snake or a camel. Contrary to common misconceptions, they are not agricultural pests.
