Regulus is a genus of insects belonging to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae. These insects are characterized by an elongated snout, which is used for feeding and oviposition within plant tissues. In an agronomic context, they are categorized as hidden-living pests capable of causing significant damage to various crops during mass outbreaks.
This pest primarily infests legumes and certain types of forage grasses. Adult beetles feed on foliage, leaving characteristic notches along the edges of leaf blades, while the larvae develop inside stems or reproductive structures. This activity impairs the plant's normal growth, reduces photosynthetic capacity, and ultimately lowers the total harvest yield.
The biological life cycle of Regulus includes a complete metamorphosis. Typically, adults overwinter in the upper soil layers or under plant debris. In spring, when temperatures become favorable, the beetles emerge to feed and mate. Females deposit eggs into young shoots or flower buds, where the larvae pass through several developmental stages before pupating within the host plant.

Once the economic threshold of population density is reached, the application of systemic or contact-stomach insecticides is necessary, ensuring strict adherence to pre-harvest intervals.
