Rhagoletis turpiniae is a species of tephritid fruit fly within the order Diptera. Unlike its more famous relatives that attack commercial pome or stone fruits, this specific species is specialized in colonizing the fruits of plants belonging to the family Staphyleaceae, particularly those in the genus Turpinia.

The biology of this pest is centered around its synchronized life cycle with the host plant. The female fly uses her ovipositor to insert eggs beneath the skin of developing fruit. Once hatched, the larvae consume the internal tissues, effectively destroying the interior structure of the fruit as they mature.

The impact of this pest is primarily localized, resulting in fruit damage and premature fruit drop.
