These mites act as highly effective predators against a variety of agricultural pests. Their primary prey includes thrips larvae, whitefly eggs, and spider mites. A significant advantage of this genus is its ability to switch to alternative food sources, such as pollen or plant exudates, which allows the predatory population to persist in the crop even when pest numbers are low.

The biological development cycle of Scapulaseius progresses through the egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult stages. Under favorable temperature conditions, typically ranging from 20°C to 30°C, the lifecycle is completed in a relatively short period, enabling the predatory population to multiply rapidly when pest outbreaks occur.

They are particularly effective in protected cropping systems, including vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers, as well as berries and ornamental crops. Their search behavior allows them to scout leaf surfaces and micro-habitats thoroughly, successfully targeting pests in the early stages of infestation before significant crop damage takes place.

To maximize the efficacy of Scapulaseius, growers should implement an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. This includes avoiding broad-spectrum chemical pesticides that are toxic to beneficial mites. By fostering a balanced ecosystem and relying on biological controls, farmers can produce high-quality, pesticide-residue-free crops while keeping pest populations below economic injury levels.
