Scyllinops pallida is an insect species belonging to the order Orthoptera and the family Acrididae (grasshoppers). It is typically found in arid and semi-arid regions, where it thrives in open grassland habitats, often encroaching into agricultural lands to feed on both wild grasses and cultivated cereals.

This pest is known for causing significant damage to various grain crops, including wheat, barley, and oats. Because it is highly mobile, it can quickly migrate from fallow lands or grazing pastures into cultivated fields, where it consumes all available green vegetation, causing substantial economic loss to farmers.

The life cycle of Scyllinops pallida consists of three stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in the soil in clusters, protected by a pod (ootheca), which allows them to withstand winter conditions. With the arrival of spring and rising soil temperatures, nymphs emerge and progress through several instars before becoming mature adults.

The damage caused by these insects is characterized by extensive defoliation. Both nymphs and adults use their strong mandibles to devour leaves, stems, and sometimes the grain heads themselves. High population densities can lead to the total destruction of young seedlings or severely reduce the photosynthetic capacity of mature plants.
