Description
Sherifuria is a genus of small hymenopteran insects belonging to the family Eulophidae. While many members of this family function as parasitoids, some species within the Sherifuria genus are known to impact plant tissues directly, acting as specialized pests that can affect various agricultural and horticultural crops.
This pest is primarily observed in greenhouse environments, where it targets leafy vegetables and ornamental plants. The larvae inhabit the internal tissues of the leaves and stems, leading to the development of necrotic spots, chlorosis, and a overall decline in plant vigor, which directly affects the commercial quality of the produce.
The life cycle of Sherifuria is highly dependent on ambient temperatures within the cultivation area. Females oviposit directly into the plant epidermis.
