The beetle typically infests grains, cereal products, flour, oilseeds, and sometimes dried fruits. It thrives in environments where storage conditions are suboptimal, particularly where high humidity and temperature permit the insect to establish large populations within stored bulk commodities.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis, consisting of the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females lay eggs directly on the food source or in small crevices within storage containers.
