Stathmopoda

Stathmopoda is a genus of moths belonging to the family Stathmopodidae. Several species within this genus are known to be significant agricultural pests, causing substantial economic losses in various fruit-producing regions by infesting orchards, vineyards, and plantations of subtropical crops.

These pests primarily target a wide range of fruit crops including grapes, persimmons, pomegranates, apples, and various nut species. The larvae are the main damaging stage, as they bore into the fruit, feeding on the internal tissues, developing seeds, and causing the fruit to wither and decay prematurely.

The biology of Stathmopoda revolves around several generations per year, depending on the climatic conditions. Adults are typically nocturnal, laying eggs near the fruit or flower stalks. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately seek entry points into the fruit, which provides them with both nutrition and protection from predators and environmental stressors.
