Stenohippus

Stenohippus is a genus of grasshoppers belonging to the family Acrididae. These insects are common inhabitants of grassland and steppe habitats, where they have adapted to survive in arid and semi-arid conditions. From an agricultural perspective, Stenohippus is recognized as a pest species that can cause economic damage to various crops when population levels spike.

These insects primarily feed on cereal crops, including wheat, barley, and oats, as well as various perennial grasses. Their feeding habits make them a significant concern for large-scale grain producers and livestock farmers, as they reduce the biomass of pastures and degrade the quality of harvested fodder, often leading to substantial losses in productivity.
