Tamarixia triozae is a parasitoid wasp belonging to the family Eulophidae within the order Hymenoptera. In agricultural practice, it is recognized as a vital beneficial organism used in integrated pest management (IPM) programs to suppress populations of the potato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli.
The biology of Tamarixia triozae involves a highly specialized parasitic cycle. The female wasp deposits eggs underneath the nymphs of the host psyllid. Upon hatching, the wasp larva attaches itself to the underside of the psyllid nymph, feeding on its internal fluids. This interaction effectively kills the host, preventing it from reaching adulthood and reproducing.
