The red-margined leafhopper (Tapajosa rubromarginata) is a hemipteran insect belonging to the family Cicadellidae. This species is native to South America, particularly common in Brazil and Argentina, where it is recognized as a significant pest affecting a wide range of agricultural and forest crops.

This pest is a known polyphage, meaning it feeds on a broad variety of host plants. It poses a severe threat to major crops such as soybeans, maize, beans, and millet, as well as various citrus varieties. By feeding on the plant sap, the leafhopper compromises the structural integrity and metabolic functions of the host plant.

The biology of Tapajosa rubromarginata is closely adapted to the climatic conditions of its range. The life cycle consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. The population dynamics are highly responsive to temperature and moisture, allowing the pest to produce multiple generations throughout the growing season in favorable environments.
