Tenthecoris is a genus of plant bugs belonging to the family Miridae (order Hemiptera). These insects are recognized as specialized pests that primarily target various species of orchids. Due to their small size and cryptic behavior, they are often overlooked until significant damage to the plant tissue has already occurred.

The primary hosts for Tenthecoris are orchids, specifically genera such as Cattleya and Laelia. The bugs possess piercing-sucking mouthparts that they insert into the leaf epidermis to feed on plant sap. By extracting fluids from the mesophyll cells, they cause localized cell death and disrupt the plant's metabolic functions, leading to reduced vigor.

The biology of Tenthecoris is characterized by incomplete metamorphosis. The development consists of the egg stage, several nymphal instars, and the adult stage. Nymphs and adults occupy similar niches on the host plant, often congregating in crevices or on the undersides of leaves. Their reproductive rate is highly dependent on ambient temperature, with warmer conditions accelerating the pest's life cycle.

Symptoms of infestation are usually visible as small, chlorotic stippling or spotting on the orchid leaves. As feeding continues, these spots may coalesce into larger patches of discolored, necrotic tissue. The damage not only impacts the visual appearance of the orchid but can also lead to stunted growth and increased susceptibility to opportunistic infections by pathogens.

Effective management requires a combination of monitoring and targeted control measures. Because these bugs can hide effectively, treatments must be thorough. Recommended strategies include:
