Description

Tetracnemoidea is a genus belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Encyrtidae. These insects are widely recognized in agricultural entomology not as direct plant pests, but as essential parasitoid wasps that regulate the populations of various scale insects, specifically mealybugs (Pseudococcidae).

The primary hosts of Tetracnemoidea are mealybugs, which are notorious for damaging fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants by sucking sap, injecting toxins, and secreting honeydew. This honeydew subsequently promotes the growth of sooty mold, which severely impacts photosynthesis and plant health.
