Biology and life cycle. The life cycle involves a migration between the primary woody host and secondary herbaceous hosts. After the development of spring generations in galls on elm trees, winged forms migrate to the root systems of cereal crops. They continue to reproduce underground until autumn, when some individuals return to the primary host.
