Thamnotettix is a genus of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Cicadellidae. These leafhoppers are active sap-feeders and pose a significant threat to a wide range of agricultural crops, primarily by transmitting dangerous viral and phytoplasma pathogens during the feeding process.
This pest infests various plant species, including cereals, vegetables, and fruit crops. Significant damage is often observed in sugar beet fields, potatoes, tomatoes, and various forage grasses. The damage is caused by both direct removal of sap from leaves and stems and the injection of toxic salivary secretions that disrupt plant metabolism.
The biology of Thamnotettix is characterized by incomplete metamorphosis. They typically overwinter in the egg stage, deposited within the plant tissues or the upper layers of the soil. In spring, nymphs emerge and undergo several molting stages before reaching adulthood. Depending on climatic conditions, the insect can produce one or several generations per season.

Necrotic lesions often develop at the site of feeding punctures. Beyond mechanical damage, these insects are notorious for vectoring systemic diseases, such as yellows-type pathogens, which severely reduce harvest yields and fruit quality.
