The poplar leaf-folding aphid (Thecabius populiconduplifolius) is a specialized insect species belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. It is recognized as a significant pest of various poplar species, particularly those in the Populus genus, impacting urban landscapes and forestry plantations.
The biological cycle of this species is complex and involves host alternation. In the spring, the aphid initiates its life cycle on poplar leaves, stimulating the formation of distinctive galls. Later in the season, winged migrants move to secondary herbaceous hosts, typically members of the Ranunculaceae family, to continue their reproductive cycles.
