The Red pine needle midge (Thecodiplosis piniresinosae) is a significant insect pest belonging to the Cecidomyiidae family within the order Diptera. This species is specifically adapted to parasitize pine species, with the red pine (Pinus resinosa) being its primary host. It acts as a specialized herbivore that can significantly impact the health and vigor of pine stands.

This midge targets the needles of pine trees.
