Daub's Silver Y (Thysanoplusia daubei) is a moth species belonging to the Noctuidae family within the order Lepidoptera. This pest is recognized as a significant polyphagous insect that can cause considerable damage to various agricultural crops, especially in warmer climates. The adult moths are characterized by specific markings on their forewings, which are crucial for identification in the field.

This species primarily feeds on a variety of vegetable crops, including tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and various Brassica species. Beyond cultivated fields, the larvae thrive on a wide range of weeds, which serves as a critical refuge and allows the pest population to survive even when primary host crops are not available.

The biological cycle consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult. The insect can complete several generations per year depending on environmental conditions. Temperature is a key driver for development rates. Pupation usually takes place in the soil or within plant debris, making soil cultivation a vital factor in controlling overwintering populations.

The larval stage is the most destructive, as caterpillars consume large amounts of leaf tissue. Initial damage appears as small holes in the leaves, which can expand rapidly.
