These insects are distinguished by their pronotum, which extends back over the abdomen, providing excellent camouflage against soil and decaying organic matter.

It is most frequently found in areas with high soil moisture, affecting cereals, vegetable crops, and pastures located near wetlands, river floodplains, or heavily irrigated fields where the microclimate is favorable for their survival.
