Trabutina is a genus of insects belonging to the mealybug family (Pseudococcidae) within the order Hemiptera. These small, sap-sucking insects are highly specialized, typically infesting shrubs and trees in arid and semi-arid environments, where they thrive by exploiting specific host plants.

The primary hosts for Trabutina are species within the Tamaricaceae family, specifically the genus Tamarix. These pests are frequently found in landscapes and natural ecosystems where tamarisk is grown, often becoming problematic when environmental stressors weaken the plant's natural defenses.

The life cycle of Trabutina involves several developmental stages, including eggs, mobile nymphs, and sedentary adult females. The females are typically covered in a waxy, white secretion that serves as a protective barrier against predators, desiccation, and direct contact with many standard insecticides, making them difficult to eradicate.

Damage is caused by the insects extracting significant amounts of phloem sap from the host plant.
