Trichoribates trimaculatus is a species of oribatid mite belonging to the family Ceratozetidae. While oribatid mites are traditionally regarded as soil-dwelling decomposers that feed on organic matter and fungi, several species, including this one, have been observed feeding on the living tissues of plants in greenhouses and intensive agricultural settings.

The host range for this pest includes a variety of ornamental plants, strawberries, and vegetable seedlings. These mites prefer humid environments rich in decaying matter, which often occurs in professional greenhouses where mulch or organic potting media are heavily used. Under favorable conditions, their populations can reach damaging levels.

The life cycle of the mite comprises an egg, larva, three nymphal stages, and an adult. Unlike spider mites, oribatid mites have a heavy, sclerotized cuticle that makes them highly resistant to environmental stressors and some standard contact pesticides. Damage to plants typically starts as chlorotic spotting on leaves, caused by the mites piercing plant cells to feed on sap. As the infestation progresses, leaves may become deformed, yellow, or prematurely senesce. The pest's habit of moving between the soil and the foliage makes them particularly difficult to monitor during early stages of colonization.
